Ryan Morrison Bio
Ryan Morrison grew up in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. In the last eight years he has released two EPs — About this Girl (2006) and What Consumes Me (2009) — and has performed regularly in a variety of a cappella groups including Summerhouse and The Spooky Men’s Chorale. Ryan composed, directed and arranged music for The Spooky Men of the West for two years until moving to Melbourne in 2008. He also works as a freelance graphic designer.
Ryan is now setting off to travel the globe. In the first half of 2009 he will be touring Australia with songwriter Kate Rowe, performing across the country and teaching body percussion in schools. See here for info. In July, he will travel to the UK to tour with The Spooky Men’s Chorale, and to live in Lithuania for a few months.
Ryan’s vocal style is sweet and beautiful, and tends to remind people of either Jeff Buckley or melting chocolate. His latest EP, What Consumes Me, is a collection of six songs that span the emotional spectrum — from the hopelessly romantic ‘Don’t Get Too Close’, to the down and dirty ‘Thursday’s My Happy Day’ and the beautifully serene ‘Caress Me’. The EP features Stephen Taberner on double bass and keyboards, Kate Rowe on keyboards and backing vocals, and Vincent Bradley on flugel horn.
